The public and journalists agree, the Opera "Time of the Gypsies" of Emir Kusturica at Paris Bastille Opera is a fantastic success ! The night of the first show, on june 26, a 15 minutes standing-ovation applauded the genius, the sensibility and the madness of the director. A press review was added on the page of the opera.
Some details on the (probable) next film of Emir Kusturica :
- The title would be “Mexico”
- It would be based on the life of the gangster, who became general, Pancho Villa.
- The shooting will take place in Russia
- Emir Kusturica has asked “his friend” Guillermo Arriaga (scenarist of “Babel”, “Amores perros”, “21 grams” and “the three burrials of Melquiades Estrada”) to write the scenario.

Despite the remaining work on the opera, Emir has announced he would be present at the 29th Moscow Film Festival, which will take place from 21st june to 30th. Promise me this will open the festival. Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov is the festival president. About the film's title, and for the festival web site, Emir Kusturica has declared : ”I brought everything I promised. I did everything that a man should do when he is making a movie. I am like Maradona in football. I do whatever I like and I am privileged to do as much as I like. And still I never forget that I must remain free and autonomous. This is what determines my unique position in cinema. I don’t know how long it’ll take, but I know for sure that for now I am balancing between cinema and life. That is why I am in cinema for 25 years already.”
Emir Kusturica has recently declared being interested in the life of Pancho Villa. Maybe a new project of film ?
After Time of the Gypsies another film will be released in collector edition in France : it's Black Cat, White Cat, with new bonuses, scheduled for the end of the year.

Promise me this came back with no prize from the Cannes Film Festival. Its screening mixed the critics. Nevertheless, they all agreeed that the film is crazy, funny and colourful… but some journalists found it was too much, while other considered it as a little jewel of mischievousness… But for its release in theatres, we'll have to wait until the end of the year…

The 60th Cannes Film Festival will open its doors in 5 days ! With Promise me this, it will be the fifth time Emir Kusturica walks the red carpet with a film in official competition… Stephen Frears's jury is expected to give its choice on 27 may ! Many new pictures were added on the film page.

The No Smoking Orchestra's new album on the Opera "Time of the Gypsies" is announced for mid-june 2007, a few days before the Première at the Opéra Bastille.
Goran Bregović's new album Karmen (with a happy ending), will be released in may in some countries, and in june in France.
After Time of the Gypsies (which will be released in collector DVD edition in France on 6th june), it will be Black Cat, White Cat which will also have a new collector double DVD edition with new bonuses.
Thursday 26 april at 6pm in Paris : discussion between Jean-Max Méjean (author of the new Emir Kusturica book) and Matthieu Dhennin (author of the “Lexique subjectif d’Emir Kusturica”), will be followed by signatures in the new cinema bookstore “Ciné Reflet” (14, rue Monsieur le Prince 75006 Paris - Métro Odéon). With a little glass and some gypsy music…
