  • In a recent interview, Emir Kusturica confirms that his book “Where am I in the story ?” will be released soon (on 15 september) in Serbia and will be published by Vecernje Novosti. No further information yet on availability in other language nor other country.
  • Even though his agenda already very busy, in an interview to a Mexican newspaper, Emir speaks of a project of making an Unza-Unza version of Verdi's Aïda to celebrate the 110 years of the death of the Italian composer (in 2011, so, which seems to be rather unlikely).
  • Also, a few weeks before leaving to Russia for the next concerts, a Spanish website tells us that Emir Kusturica would have (yet another) new film project, this time in Russia. The site even mentions the names of the characters : Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė for the feminine lead role (we've seen her in “Burnt by the sun” and Farewell) and Ivan Urgant or Konstantin Khabensky (famous Russian actors), for the masculine role. One problem : the scenario is not written, but is confident : his forthcoming stay in Russia will certainly help him. (Source : espanarusa.com )
  • From 9 to 14 october will be held the 47th International Golden Orange Film Festival in Antalya, in Turkey. Emir Kusturica will be a member of the jury. For this event, will be screened some films of Emir Kusturica, among which Maradona, with the famous Argentine football player as guest star. (Source : hurriyetdailynews.com )
  • A new concert is scheduled in ex-Yugoslavia (they are rare) : Emir Kusturica & le No Smoking Orchestra will play in Ljubljana in Slovenia on 19 september, at Krizanke hall.

Légion d'honneur

  • On 14th of July (French national holiday), Emir Kusturica was raised Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour).
  • On 15th July, Emir Kusturica and the No Smoking Orchestra played for the first time in the USA, in New York. As usual, the concert started with the Russian anthem ; Nele reports : ”Seventy percent of the audience stood up while the rest of was completely shocked. However, seconds later they all were standing. Apart from Americans, in the audience there were people from Russia, Poland, Japan, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Mexico…” He greeted all of those nationalities in their mother tongues.   • On 20th July, took place in Küstendorf a conference on sustainable development in Serbia ; Emir Kusturica announced he wanted to build a small hydroelectric powerplant near Mokra Gora in order to help contuining the extension of his village This conference marked the 110 years of the powerplant built on the Djetinja, according to the principles established by Nikola Tesla, the famous Serbian scientist. It was the first hydroelectric powerplant in Europe, and it's still in activity. (source : isria.com)
  • The Opera "Time of the Gypsies" will be re-launched : the first of a new tour is scheduled on 5th november in Belgrade (Sava Center). Then, the group will play in Greece and Russia. (source : blic.rs)
  • At the same time, beginning of november, Emir Kusturica will start the shooting of his next film : Cool Water, in Israel and Palestine. (source : screendaily.com)
