Vilko Filać was born on 14 february 1950 in Ptuj (Slovenia). After his cinema studies at the FAMU of Prague, he meets young Emir Kusturica. A long artistic collaboration will be born, as well as a tecnical complicity and a deep friendship between the two men. Vilko will the director of photography for all Emir Kusturica's film until Underground.

What I like, is to participate to a project since the beginning, since the very first drafts, the first versions of the script, and to follow all the subsequent versions until the last one. Meanwhile, you have to discuss with the director to get into the material of the film, and then decide with him the best way to direct.

Emir leaves me a great freedom for the light, but he often agrees with my decisions, and makes often interesting suggestions because he's among those directors who have a good sens of lighting and framing.
